About Salpaticca
Why did I call my company Salpattica?
In 1937, during the Great Depression, my grandfather had built a life-sized dollhouse for his two daughters, my mom, Sally, and my Aunt Patty. It was his way of giving work to a local carpenter. The structure has a living room, bedroom, and a kitchen, with electricity throughout, and when it was first built, a working telephone from the dollhouse to the main house.
The dollhouse provided lots of fun and entertainment to my mom and aunt and then to me and my two sisters as we grew up. Now, it proudly lives at the local historical museum so that generations of children may visit and see how generosity of spirit created something so memorable and fun.
My grandfather named the dollhouse "Salpattica" – combining parts of my mom′s and aunt′s names – Sally and Patricia. To me the word is a combination of home, memories, spirit and love which is why I use this as my company name.
I hope you enjoy what I am trying to do with my art. I'd love to hear from you so please drop me a line.
